After retiring from that sport in 2008 and bobsled in 2010 due to an Achilles injury, she was looking for something to stoke her competitive fire. That started a ride that would span nine years of intense competition. Bobsledding was a needed change-of-pace for Person, who enjoyed the new adventure. But between the crashes and the sharp turns came repeated blows to the head that plague him even now.
The Whistler sliding centre is one of only 15 competition sliding tracks in the world. Olympic athletes train and prepare on the Whistler bobsled track on a daily basis during the winter months. However, for a couple of hours each day, los lotharios meaning the Whistler Sliding Centre closes down for training and opens up to the public. Bobsledding and skeleton leave athletes vulnerable to a phenomenon referred to as “sled head,” a slang term for what scientists call a stretch injury.
