The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai offers early acceptance to college sophomores from any major, with no MCAT requirement, and a progressive approach to medical school preparation for half of each entering class. Competitive candidates will have grades of B+ or above in all science courses, and will have earned grades of B or above in all other courses, as well as having had some volunteer or employment experience in a health care setting. Meeting the minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee that an applicant will be selected to interview. Applicants must submit an official score report of their SAT or ACT exam. Incoming students complete orientation at sites across the state, and engage in an immersive community-based curriculum. During their third year, students complete a nine-month Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship – an innovative learning model that allows third-year students to follow a panel of patients as they move through the healthcare system, rather than interacting with them just once. This ongoing engagement gives Maine Track students a primary care-like experience, and leaves them well-prepared – and inspired – to practice in a rural setting. Students who are or will be enrolled in a qualifying Maine-based medical school program are eligible for the scholarship. The student must have a substantial connection to the state of Maine and at least one year of residence in Maine for purposes other than education. Maine college students are eligible to apply for the Maine Track Early Assurance Program. Candidates must have demonstrated academic excellence, particularly in the premedical science courses. By the end of sophomore year, eligible candidates will have taken two semesters of biology, two semesters of general chemistry, and one semester of organic chemistry. Candidates will have attained a science GPA and a Total GPA of 3.5 or higher. The school will provide you with the information you need to apply for the scholarship.
