Beginning in 1981, the string department curriculum expanded to include many stylistic idioms besides classical music. In 1986, the world’s first college-level major in music synthesis was offered, followed by the world’s first college songwriting major in 1987. Instrumental majors also expanded to include the first college hand-percussion major in 1988. The college was also the first third-level institution in the world to offer a course in Electric Bass Guitar.
Berklee Online is regionally accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education , the same association that accredits our main campus and other leading academic institutions such as Harvard University and MIT. Our courses are transferable to other institutions, but it’s up to the receiving institution to decide the number and types of courses that may transfer. We recommend getting a course pre-approved by an institution before enrolling. Our programs provide lifelong learning opportunities to people interested in music and working in the music industry. On January 19, 2016, the two schools announced that they would be merging. The agreement was signed the next day, with Berklee College of Music being renamed Berklee, and the Conservatory being renamed The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Berklee was the first institution to offer jazz, rock, film scoring, DJing, and electronic production majors. It has over 250 Grammy winners among its alumni, because of its creative style and diverse study alternatives.
As of fall 2018, Admissions updated its applications reporting to count only paid applications. Previous years’ totals includes all partial applications, regardless of status or payment. Berklee College of Music is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education . It offers multiple bachelor’s and Master’s degrees as well as diplomas, all focused on music. Berklee’s administrators released a statement saying, in part, that the college has rigorous policies and procedures in place to deal with claims of sexual harassment.
You may only apply to either the Bachelor of Music or the Bachelor of Arts program. Generally, transfer credit cannot be used to fulfill prerequisites unless we determine that the course you completed is a direct equivalent to one of the courses we offer at Berklee Online. Keep in mind that there are some courses which require you to pass a placement exam. For these you will need to achieve a passing grade on the test to fulfill the prerequisite, otherwise you will need to complete the appropriate Berklee Online course. You will not be evaluated on the production quality of the recordings, rather on the compositional ideas expressed in the recordings. Applicants to our Guitar, Piano, Voice, Songwriting and Producing Music, and Music Composition for Film, TV, and Games degrees are required to submit a Demonstration of Musicianship. We can accept official transcripts that are sent electronically, through mail, or via fax. A transcript can only be considered official if it is sent directly from the issuer of the record (institution, examination board, ministry of education, homeschool supervisor, etc.) to Berklee Online. Provide an official transcript from each college/university that you have attended or are currently attending. The Harvard’s dual degree programs are a five-year endeavor where you will receive both a Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) from Harvard College and a master’s degree fromNew England ConservatoryorBerklee. Passport and Visa.All participants must have a passport that is valid for at least six months after the program’s end date. Most students will need to obtain a student visa to study in Spain. The Berklee Study Abroad staff can provide guidance in applying for the passport and visa but it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to apply for and obtain them.
The non-refundable application fee of $75 is due at the time of application submission. Apply for regular admissions by March 15 to receive a decision by April 15.
