The moment you punch the clock on day one, you are assigned a squad, squad leader and chain of command. You are treated like an officer, and you are expected to act like one. This intense training is modeled after a real police department. You sign in and out on a time sheet every day and work in 15-minute increments.

Many large cities, including Springfield, have their own academies and many require applicants to have military experience or at least two years of college. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury University is offering a new scholarship opportunity to help law enforcement officers looking to pursue a college degree. Officer Thomas Sanderson grew up in the Springfield area. He graduated from the Drury law enforcement academy in 2018.

The orientation will be held in the academy classroom located in the Law Enforcement Academy building. The Law Enforcement Academy building is located on the SE portion of the Drury campus in Springfield. The building is red stucco on Bob Barker Blvd (formally Brower St.), one block east of Drury Lane. A $50 non-refundable application fee must be paid prior to or at the orientation.

Bowers points out there are an average of two women in every class but only five black graduates in the past decade. This opportunity is available for all graduates of Mineral Area’s AAS in Criminal Justice, including those who earned the degree through Mineral Area’s partnership living bing with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Paul Williams has thanked the university for offering this unique opportunity. “I was notified of this new program last month and have made SPD officers aware,” he said.
