Over $4.8 million in merit-based scholarship funds was awarded to the 2017–2018 entering class. Merit-based scholarships can be renewed provided the scholar receives a cumulative 2.90 GPA measured at the end of each spring term. In addition, students who did not weatherhead federal credit union qualify for an entering merit-based scholarship are eligible to earn a scholarship if they rank in the top 15 percent of their cohort group at the end of their 1L year. The law school also cohosts a unique summer study-abroad program at Cambridge in London.

Chapman’s George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics is AACSB accredited. Our Dodge College of Film and Media Arts is housed in a state-of-the-art building with the latest digital technology. The Darling Law Library’s collection includes numerous databases facilitating access to more than 2 million electronic resources—including federal and state primary authority, legal treatises, practitioner guides, legal encyclopedias, periodicals, and much more. In addition, dedicated Research and Instruction Librarians provide students with legal research strategies and resources, both at the law library’s research desk, during workshops, and as guest lecturers throughout the academic year. The Chapman University Fowler School of Law offers an LL.M degree in taxation with comprehensive course work that exposes students to a wide variety of specialized tax and estate planning courses.

The foundation also has libraries named after the couple at several institutions, including UCLA and Azusa Pacific University. The Hugh and Hazel Darling Law Library is an integral part of the academic and collegial experience at Chapman University’s Dale E. Fowler School of Law, helping students to become proficient legal researchers, and supporting faculty research, scholarship, and teaching. The full-time professors in the Fowler School of Law’s tax law program include casebook authors and past leaders in committees of the tax section of the American Bar Association, as well as respected adjunct professors who bring a real-world dynamic to the classroom. Fowler School of Law has nearly 50 full-time faculty, including a Nobel laureate, three former US Supreme Court clerks, and professors who hold degrees from Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Chicago, Pennsylvania, Berkeley, Michigan, Northwestern, Cornell, Georgetown, UCLA, and USC, among others. In addition to our full-time faculty, we are very proud of our program adjuncts, who are respected practitioners in their areas of expertise and bring real-world experience and a teaching dynamic to the classroom. The Fowler School of Law offers a generous merit-based scholarship program.

The CSO is staffed by a director; two assistant directors, including an alumni and third-year student counselor; and recruiting manager, all of whom hold JD degrees. The attorney counselors help match students’ education, skills, and interests with employment opportunities. The CSO provides a wide variety of services, resources, and programming, including our Mentor and Mock Interviews Programs. Counselors meet frequently with students to review résumés and cover letters, to help in self-assessment, to provide job search skills training, and to assist them in building professional networks.

In addition to cumulative undergraduate GPA and LSAT score, other components are also considered in determining the applicant’s potential to succeed in law school. Chapman, like some other law schools, uses merit based scholarships in order to entice competitive students who might otherwise pass over the school for higher ranked competitors and to enhance its own ranking. Clinic offerings include constitutional litigation, elder law, entertainment law, family protection/immigration law, mediation, and tax law.
