9-11Total Credits †The historical period courses are normally satisfied by history of philosophy courses, but courses on appropriate historical figures and topics may also count, with approval of the dean. The college also collaborates with The Aquinas Institute of Theology, which provides many of the graduate theology courses the Jesuit students take, and with Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, whose faculty deliver some of the courses for seminarians. The college seeks to prepare students with the intellectual background for intelligent service of faith and justice in dialogue with culture, and for later studies in theology. This master’s program provides the interdisciplinary foundations for intelligent ministry in the Church and further divinity studies required for ordination. For future priests, the degree also offers the opportunity to satisfy one year of the four years of graduate theological studies required for ordination. Open to any undergraduate major, Saint Louis University’s Ignatian Service minor ([email protected]) is a cross-disciplinary program examining the Jesuit tradition, Ignatian spirituality, service and servant leadership.

We seek to educate them in the history of philosophy, contemporary philosophical debate and the Catholic heritage. Our goal is to nurture in each student a philosophical habit of mind, an appreciation for the Western philosophical tradition, a spirit of intellectual inquiry, and a lifelong desire for wisdom. By mutual arrangement between the Aquinas Institute of Theology and the College of Philosophy and Letters, post-baccalaureate Jesuit students at SLU take graduate courses in theology offered at the Institute of Theology. For post-baccalaureate students, graduate work toward a master’s degree is facilitated by agreements with the partnering departments that allow the student to begin on coursework before officially enrolling in the program. Per these agreements, students may remain in the College of Philosophy and Letters for up to two years before transferring to the graduate program. By mutual arrangement between the Department of Theological Studies and the College of Philosophy and Letters, post-baccalaureate Jesuit students at SLU may take graduate courses in theology.

Have at least a 2.00 cumulative average, a 2.00 average in the major and a 2.00 average in the minor or related elective hours. To be admitted to the major, you must have at least a 2.00 cumulative average and complete a declaration of major form, available in the Office of the Registrar.
